We recently visited the Cathedral Fig Tree near Lake Tinaroo on the Atherton Tablelands before dawn, primarily so I could record some morning rainforest noises. Just before dawn, the rainforest is a cacophony of noise as the various birds all compete to be heard.
I’ve posted a 17 minute sample with a downloadable mp3 file. Towards the end of this recording you can hear some kookaburras laughing loudly and the distinctive sound of a Whipbird very close by.
The crackling sounds are caused by thousands of drops of water condensing on the leaves and dropping to hit leaves below them.
This stereo recording sounds best with headphones on.

Lovely Mike… may be morning music… but I think I could use it at night to go to sleep. 🙂
Thanks Diane.
